On 30th October (Friday), five representatives of the CCAC, including Deputy Commissioner, Tou Wai Fong, and Acting Chief of Cabinet of the Commissioner, Vu Ka Vai, visited the Macao Federation of Trade Unions (FAOM) to discuss the cooperation in promotion of the law Prevention and Suppression of Bribery in the Private Sector, which would come into effect on 1st March 2010, for the members.

The representatives were welcomed by President, Ho Sut Heng, Vice President, Ng So Foon, Presidents of Executive Committee, Lam Heong Sang and Chan Kam Meng, Vice President of Executive Committee, Lei Chong Cheng, the Secretary-Generals and the Chief of Public Relations Department. Deputy Commissioner, Tou Wai Fong, thanked the FAOM for its long-term support and then introduced the promotional works being carried out by the CCAC currently. Ms. Tou stressed that the implementation was very important to all professional sectors in the society; therefore, she hoped to obtain opinions about the promotion from the federation. The President, Ho Sut Heng, pointed out that the FAOM supported implementation of the law Prevention and Suppression of Bribery in the Private Sector because the law would facilitate the building of a fairer and cleaner society. As both employers and employees have to clearly understand the provisions in order not to break the law, she agreed that the CCAC had to the time to carry out extensive promotion for citizens.

The President of Executive Committee, Chan Kam Meng, and Vice Presidents of Executive Committee, Lam Heong Sang and Lei Chong Cheng, agreed on the importance of promotion for workers in every sector, especially the clear definition of bribe accepting and offering and explanation of the outcome of breaking the law and the legislative objective. They suggested providing specific examples during promotional seminars to remind the workers.

Deputy Commissioner, Tou Wai Fong, thanked them for their valuable opinions and stressed that the CCAC gave much weight to prevention. Finally, both parties reached an agreement, which is that the CCAC will first conduct a seminar for the board members of FAOM. Later the federation will arrange various unions, front-line staff of social associations and their youth departments to attend the seminars organized by the Commission. Both parties agreed that the enhancement of understanding of the new law would be beneficial to workers of private companies in Macao.
