CCAC Broke a Case of Bribe Soliciting in the Private Sector
After investigation and evidence collection, the CCAC carried out an operation on 3rd March. A man who was alleged to have broken the law against bribery in the private sector was taken to the Commission for further investigation.
Evidence shows that the suspect is a Hong Kong resident. He is an employee of a construction project management company registered in Macao, which was in charge of the tender and management for a large construction project in Macao. He obtained some commercial confidential information, such as the tender offers and the comments given by consultancies.
In mid-January, the suspect met a staff of one of the bidding companies. During the meeting, he put the confidential information mentioned above in an envelope and told the staff that the information would be very helpful to the company in the next stage of the tender procedure. If the company would offer him a reward amounting to 1% to 2.5% of the total cost of the project (the reward was around MOP1 million to 2 million), he would give them the information.
The suspect's employer and the company from which he solicited the bribe rendered assistance to the CCAC during the investigation. During the operation, the aforementioned confidential information possessed by him and other evidence were seized.
The case has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office, which has immediately adopted coercive measures against the suspect.
