In order to enhance the awareness of all citizens in supporting a clean election, the Commission Against Corruption (CCAC) continues to strengthen the promotion work of clean election, including seminars on clean election for associations and young voters to introduce the relevant stipulations of the Election Law and the situations which might easily give rise to violation of law. The CCAC hopes that through promotion and education, the general public could abide by the law, conscientiously and willingly support clean elections through their actions.
Following the seminars on clean election co-organized with associations such as the Junior Chamber International and the Macao Federation of Trade Unions, the CCAC organized a seminar on clean election on 6th June for the members of the People's Alliance of Construction of Macao (APIM) upon it's invitation. At the seminar, the Commissioner, Fong Man Chong, introduced the electoral corruption as stipulated in the Election Law, the measures undertaken by the CCAC in preventing and combating electoral corruption, and answered questions of the attendants. The Commissioner stated that various tasks related to the election needed to be accomplished since the day of Legislative Assembly Election of 2013 is approaching, all parties such as the Government, the Legislative Assembly Electoral Affairs Commission (CAEAL) and the CCAC have launched into the stage of actual deployment. It is hoped that the election this year will be carried out in a fair and legal way and free from corruption, which is also the expectation of all Macao citizens. The probity of elections is also a way to demonstrate the continuous elevation of the civic and cultural level of Macao citizens. The Commissioner encouraged citizens to report to the CCAC if they discover any electoral irregularity or illegal acts. He reiterated that for any acts that is in conflict with the Election Law, the CCAC will adopt measures and combat with its full effort and without favour and hesitation. A number of members of the leadership of the APIM attended the seminar.
Moreover, considering that among the newly registered voters, over 10,000 of them are young people with age 24 or under, the CCAC has made special arrangements of various promotional activities, including seminars, drama performances, touring exhibitions, etc., to promote the message of clean election to youngsters. It is hoped that the new generation could defend the integrity and honesty of election with self-respect throughout the election activities.
The CCAC will continue to carry out diversified promotional and educational activities with the aim to spread the message of clean election to all sectors of society.
