In order to further enhance the implementation of the integrity management system of the Macao government, the CCAC organized the ¡§Symposium on Integrity Management¡¨ at the Macau Tower on 17th February (Tuesday). Around 250 middle- and-high ranking management personnel, including the advisors of the cabinets of the Chief Executive and the principal officials as well as directors and chiefs of various public departments and entities attended the symposium and shared their experience in the implementation of the Integrity Management Plan.

The CCAC invited the Ombudsman of Hong Kong, Alice Tai, Director of Corruption Prevention Department of the ICAC of Hong Kong, Jean Au-Yeung, President of the Institute for Tourism Studies (IFT), Vong Chuk Kuan and Director of Identification Bureau (DSI), Lai Ieng Kit to deliver speeches at the symposium while the Commissioner, Cheong U, officiated the opening ceremony.

At the symposium, the Ombudsman, Alice Tai, introduced the functions of the Office of the Ombudsman of Hong Kong, the relevant ordinance, the methods for handling complaints as well as the objective, guidelines and procedures of initiating direct investigation. Mrs Jean Au-Yeung, in her speech entitled ¡§The Integrity Management in Hong Kong ¡¨, explained the strategies of corruption prevention, the belief and the working models of the ICAC and analyzed the reasons for corruption. In her conclusion, she pointed out that the enhancement of corruption prevention facilitated the effective governance of public departments and created clean and efficient public service.

Ms Vong Chuk Kuan introduced briefly the implementation of the ¡§Integrity Management Plan¡¨ of the IFT, while Mr. Lai Ieng Kit, in his speech entitled ¡§Experience in Integrity Building and Management¡¨, talked about the cooperation in integrity construction between the DSI and the CCAC and the progress of the implementation of the plan.

In September 2007, the CCAC launched the ¡§Integrity Management Plan ¡V Protocol of Collaboration¡¨ in order to strengthen the integrity management of the public departments and entities by encouraging them to carry out mechanisms of corruption prevention and education systematically. Currently, a total of 61 departments and entities have signed the protocol and a substantial part of them have already achieved certain progress in the implementation.
